About Jason...

Originally from Northeast Kansas, Jason brings with him 20 years of college-level teaching experience as well as multiple degrees in the fields of both filmmaking and education. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Media Production in the Department of Communication at Pittsburg State University. In the past he has taught courses in filmmaking, broadcasting, video game design, and digital media for Bryan College (Topeka, Kansas), Emporia State University (Emporia, Kansas), Virginia Tech (Blacksburg, VA), the University of Central Arkansas (Conway, AR), William Woods University (Fulton, MO), Georgia Southern University (Statesboro, GA), and Southwestern College (Winfield, KS).

Jason's current media production interests include writing and directing screenplays with strong female lead characters whose journeys transcend the genres of action-adventure films, science fiction, and romantic comedies.  He is an expert in the cinematography, lighting, editing, and sound design of narrative films, documentaries, and broadcast television.  Jason endeavors to bring a unique perspective to the education of motion pictures by engaging undergraduates and graduates in critical pedagogy - the curricular integration of cinema history & theory with the video-production practice - and by inspiring his students to explore how the visual narrative of cinema and the cross-disciplinary aspects of both the filmmaking and broadcasting processes apply to collaborative learning in all fields.

In his spare time, Jason enjoys exploring wild caves, skiing the slopes, running or working out in the gym, researching and shooting photos of abandoned old derelict towns, and the occasional short-range road trip.
